5 Summer Boredom Buster Printables

Hey Teacher Friends!

Today I’m sharing 5 ways to battle summer boredom with the kiddos at home.  Don’t forget to get your FREE printables too!

We are already on week 2 of our summer holidays and so far, we have yet to hear the famous words — I’M BORED!  Perhaps, the reason behind this is that we strive the importance of staying busy throughout our summer days.

We love getting the kiddos involved in planning out our summer. It gives them a sense of purpose and motivates them to achieve their own goals they have set.  Plus, it keeps them from getting into the lazy summer mode for awhile!

How?

Simple… summer printables!

5 Summer Boredom Buster Printables:

Enjoy these SIX simple yet effective summer boredom buster printable ideas.  They are easy to implement and get your kiddos thinking about staying busy, learning, and enjoying their time off.

Try printing and completing as a family, then displaying them somewhere as a visual reminder such as the fridge or family calendar corner.

1–Summer Bucket List

Display this summer bucket list printable on your fridge to inspire your family members to be active and participate in some key summertime fun! The list is divided into 3 sections – indoor activities, outdoor activities & places to visit.  Your kiddos can check off the bucket list as the summer goes on and see how many ideas you can accomplish!

2–Summer BINGO

Play the simple game of bingo throughout the summer.  As a family, cross off an activity each time you complete it and try to get a full card by the end of the summer.  The best part?  Each person in the family can create up their own summer activity bingo card and include the activities that they wish to enjoy throughout the summer break!

3–Goals for Summer

Sit down near the beginning of summer with your kiddos to complete the summer goals printable.  I love this activity as it gets them to start thinking about what they want to achieve over the 2 months at home in regards to learning new skills, books to read, foods to enjoy, places to go, and things to create!  As well, it’s a great opportunity to plan out the summer as a family!

4–Boredom Jar

The famous words during the summer are…I’m BORED!  If you are someone who hates hearing this on a daily basis, try out the boredom jar.  You can fill out the boredom jar printable with activities to keep the kiddos occupied, cut out the strips, and place in a jar.  Each time your kiddos feel bored, have them pick out one of these activities to complete.  I like to fill the jar with activities that can be completed individually such as reading a book, playing Lego, learning a card trick, jumping rope, building a blanket fort, etc.  What fun ideas could you include?

5–Have you….before tech?

I’ve saved the best for last.  Kids tend to turn to tech when they are bored during the summer months and can end up spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME staring at the screen.  However, earning tech time is important for kids to understand that being on a device is a privilege.  This printable is perfect to display on a fridge as a visual reminder that in order to be granted some daily tech time, there are other responsibilities and expectations that they must achieve.  This is as simple as brushing their teeth, completing their chores, and playing outside.  Pair this printable with our summer routine too!
